2010 Instructor Introduction Letters

June 1, 2010

Summer is fast approaching and so is our OEC Candidate class. I wanted you to be aware of important dates and responsibilities well in advance for your planning purposes. There have been some changes from previous years so please read the information carefully, respond promptly if requested, and start looking at your personal schedule.

  1. If you are not interested in being an OEC Instructor this year please let me know as soon as possible.
  2. The OEC class will be at Victor High School (High Street, Victor, NY 14564) where we have contracted the use of their Large Group Instruction room. We will still need to bring our own projector, computers, markers and other supplies, but the room has a (projection) screen, white boards, ample tables/chairs and other amenities.
  3. The OEC class calendar is attached. Class begins in Victor on Monday August 9 and will end on Wednesday November 10. The time will be 6:30pm-9:30pm. Saturday morning classes begin mid-September at locations TBD. The Final Practical Evaluation will be Saturday November 13 (location TBD). Other potentially conflicting events are also noted.
  4. This year I am asking each instructor to respond directly to me with 3 teaching dates that fit your personal schedule. When the schedule is finalized, you will have 2 out of your original 3 dates. We are targeting July 1 to have a final published schedule, so your responsiveness is critical. The teaching schedule is attached. I need ALL responses NO LATER THAN JUNE 25.
  5. The ITs will once again be available to assist the Instructor teams with their lesson planning, props and delivery options. The current 4th edition of the OEC manual will be used (for the last time) so all region and national website lesson plans, teaching tips and other available information can be used.
  6. The Instructor Refreshers are scheduled as follows:

Saturday September 25, 8am-1pm, at Hunt Hollow (Main lodge);

Thursday September 30, 5:30pm-10:30pm, at Bristol (Sunset lodge).

You will be asked to pre-register. More information will be provided at a later date.

7.  The Region Refreshers are scheduled as follows:

Saturday October 16, 8am-4pm, at Honeoye High School;

Sunday October 24, 8am-4pm, at Honeoye High School.

You will be asked to pre-register. More information will be provided at a later date.

8. Check the Region website to verify your patrol’s on-hill refresher so you can plan accordingly.

The Candidate class this year has 35 potential participants!! It should be an exciting and challenging class. Your knowledge, experience and teaching abilities will once again provide the high quality level of training that our region is noted for. I look forward to working with all of you.

Keep this note handy for reference. More information on some of the items will be coming in the near future. Please contact me if you have questions.

Regards,

gina
